Harishandragad, A beautiful fort situated on the
boarders of Pune and Nagar. The fort is mostly famous
for its one of the cliffs, KonkanKada.
One of the ways to reach fort is from Pune. One can get
a bus from Pune to Junnar. There are many vehicles
from Junnar going towards Malshej Ghat. Go to
Khubi(just before MalshejGhat) from Junnar. A
bifurcation from Khubi goes to Khireshwar.Taking this
bifurcation one can go to Tolar col (Tolar Khind)
via Khireshwar.
On the top of the col, a small idol can be seen. Take a left
upward route from this idol. There are white arrows marked on
the way of fort (don’t trust blindly on these ones, as they might
have washed away by heavy rainfall). After a small walk one comes
across a rock. After rock climbing, the way to Harishandragad
is simple, just approximately 2 Km. Walking distance.
On the top of the fort, there are two tops, one is called as
Harishandra and other one as Taramati. A temple of
Harishandra( A well known king) is on the top of the fort.
There are some idols of different gods and goddess in the temple.
One can stay in the caves, just behind the temple. Cold water
is available nearby the temple. Thus there is no problem for night
stay, but keep the eatables safe from the rats. The root of a river,
MangalGanga is near the temple. A ShivLing can be seen
in a cave, which is right to the temple. ShivLing is surrounded
by the water. One can do Pradakshina around the ShivLing
through the water.
Well known KonkanKada is towards the west of
the temple. KonkanKada has concave shape which makes it
difficult for rock climbers. A very few trekking groups have climbed
Harishandragad via KonkanKada. It had been
reported that a complete circle of rainbow was seen during rainy
season. ( A rainbow can be seen as a half circular from the earth and
the same rainbow can be seen as a complete ring from the space.)
From the top of Taramati one can see a lots of forts,
Ghanchakkar, Kalsubai to the north. Kunjargad to the
east. Nanacha Angatha, Dhakoba to the south. Shivneri,
Hadsar to the north-east. Mahuli to the west. The other
forts, Rohidas, Alang, Madan, Kulang, Bhairav, Sidhgad, Chavand,
Jivdhan can also be seen from the top. A beautifull view of the
Malshej Ghat can be seen from the top.
The other route to the Harishandragad is from a village,
Panchnai. Take left way from Panchnai and then upward right.
Taking the route through the rock one can go to the top.
